California Registered Architect | AIA LEED AP

“I believe that architecture can create and allow for experiences that inspire the human spirit and connect us to our true natures. My goal is to transcend architectural concepts and find the essence that breathes life and purpose into every building; to move beyond aesthetics to Presence. This is accomplished by discovering the particular need of every project seeking expression through the mediums of structure, light and space, and to do so while honoring the environment. Each project becomes an exploration into making our client's vision a fulfilling, tangible reality.”

Charles Bernstein

Charles Bernstein holds both Bachelor of Architecture (University of Illinois) and Master of Architecture degrees (University of California, Los Angeles).

His formative years were spent working in New York City. He then moved to Washington DC to form the partnership of Anderson Bernstein O'Brien Architects. After a successful three years in that partnership he moved to Los Angeles where he worked for the internationally acclaimed Frank Israel Design Associates. Subsequently, he assumed the position of Sr. Associate at Steven Ehrlich Architects, a prominent Los Angeles firm. He established his own practice in 1994.

To complement his architectural career, Charles completed a Masters Degree Program with a focus on Counseling and Spiritual Psychology at the University of Santa Monica. This has assisted him in accessing his creativity and intuition, developing excellent listening and communication skills and nurturing the ability to hear, understand and creatively respond to individual as well as group concerns.

Charles has a broad range of experience in many building types with extensive experience in custom residential, and interiors. He has been widely published and has won 29 design awards as Principal of his own firm and as Design Associate with other firms.

Charles served on the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles. He has lectured extensively on his work as it exemplifies the experiential and spiritual qualities of architecture. He is a former member of the Los Angeles Forum for Architecture & Urban Design and has been featured in the 1994 New Blood 101 exhibit of the best emerging Los Angeles design talent, on the A&E House Beautiful TV Show.
